Welcome to JKA Shotokan Karate Brisbane at Indooroopilly.
At the JKA Brisbane Indooroopilly we practice the Shotokan karate martial art style. As a member of the Japan Karate Association and JKA Australia, we belong to the largest martial art organization in the world with affiliated dojo's in 100 different countries world-wide. The JKA is the Keeper of Karate’s Highest Tradition. No other organization
approaches karate with greater intensity of purpose than we do, or
maintains such a large and dedicated professional staff of
high-trained instructors. At the JKA, karate is not merely a sport;
it’s a martial art whose aim is the harmonizing of mind and body for balance, strength, perseverance, patience-for total confidence and self-mastery.

INSTRUCTOR
Shaun Walters, 4th Dan.
After 28 years of training under Master Masataka Mori, 9th Dan, in New York City I've moved to Brisbane, Australia. Within the New York dojo I was an assistant instructor for 15 years and have competed in both the US Nationals and the JKA World Championships representing the USA in both Kata and Kumite. I also worked with NYC police officers developing self defence techniques and courses for civilian and officer safety.
While in the NYC dojo, part of my teaching responsibilities was to run a Kumite class for advanced black belts. Some video examples are displayed in the gallery section of this site.
